As I said earlier, most all of this stuff was taken from RPGamer, which was in turn taken from the actual game Final Fantasy VII. I figured, why bother trying to add something of my own to Sephiroth when it would just taint his ultimate power? Anyways, I think you'll get a kick out of this stuff, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

The Lyrics to One Winged Angel

Origin of the name 'Sephiroth'

This was taken (more or less directly) from a book which talks about the fundamental nature of the cosmos, which further demonstrates how cool Sephiroth is (even though the Sephiroth in this book has nothing to do with a gene-altered human bent on destroying the world). Anyways, the book is A Beginner's Guide to Constructing the Universe, by Michael S. Schneider.

The Sacred Sefirot are Ten as their numbers. They are the ten fingers of the hands, five corresponding with five. But in the middle they are knotted in Unity. There are ten Sefirot. Ten and not nine; ten, and not eleven. If one acts and attempts to understand this Wisdom he shall become wise. Speculate, apply your intelligence, and use your imagination continually when considering them so that by such searching the Creator may be reestablished upon his throne.

--Sefir Yetzirah

... Crown, Wisdom, Understanding, Mercy, Power, Beauty, Victory, Glory, Foundation, Kingdom. These ten 'words,' or Sefirot, are said to be the 'potencies' by which the Divine manifests visible form. They are the ten archetypes of the cosmic creating process, described as ten lights or globes of luminous splendor that descend from the Divine arranged as three vertical columns.

Let's Not Forget...

Amongst all this talk about Sephiroth, I'd feel bad to leave out another cool character (this time one that's actually on your side), who is none other than the LAST OF THE ANCIENTS. While, through my research, I was unable to find anything cool about the origin of the name Aeris or the Cetra, I did find out that Aeris was born on February 7 and her blood type is O. Anyways, enjoy these little tidbits (also from RPGamer)...
